US Under Secretary of State Steve Goldstein fired

March 13 17:35 2018

On Tuesday morning, a spokesman for the State Department issued an unusual statement, saying Tillerson “did not speak to the president and is unaware of the reason” he was being replaced.

September 30, 2017 – Tillerson says the US has a few channels in which it has been in contact with North Korea and was “probing” to see if Pyongyang would be willing to engage in direct talks on its missile and nuclear programs.

Trump had scant words of praise for Tillerson, who had always been rumored to be about to be pushed out.

Senior advisors Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, who report directly to Trump, have been traveling throughout the Middle East and had already drafted a peace plan without Tillerson’s input. The confrontation centered on USA concerns over North Korea’s nuclear arms and missile programs.

The President revealed that he did not consult with Tillerson prior to giving him the boot. That call was likely in the middle of the night for Tillerson, according to Bloomberg News.

On Monday, Mr Tillerson blamed Russia for the poisonings in England of a former Russian double agent and his daughter.

Tillerson continued on to Djibouti.

Iran is the third largest crude oil producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, behind Saudi Arabia and Iraq, with output of around 3.82 million barrels per day.

The White House also weakened Tillerson’s power at Foggy Bottom by blocking him from making key appointments within the State Department.

Trump traveled to Pittsburgh for a rally on behalf of a congressional candidate in the state. Trust me, he wouldn’t have done it.

In her appointment a year ago as deputy director, Haspel garnered praise from high-level Obama-era and Bush-era appointees, including former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director Michael Hayden.

Tillerson resumed his public schedule in Kenya.

Trump announced Tuesday he is replacing Tillerson with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

In the days leading up to his firing, Tillerson showed no outward signs that his days in the administration were numbered. At the time, the State Department said he was not feeling well, the U.S. media reported.

While he did not give a laundry list of such differences except for saying that they were not on the same page, his Af-Pak policy, in particularly the State Department’s perceived soft approach to Pakistan was one of them, if the sources are to be believed. It made its intentions “foreign” even to staff at State, who are charged with implementing it; while simultaneously confusing our allies and giving comfort to our enemies, who can take advantage of turmoil and instability in our government.

The State Department under Tillerson of late had been advocating for a softer approach on Pakistan in the months since Trump announced on January 1 to suspend all aid to Islamabad till the time it eliminates terrorist safe haven from within its territory.

Multiple White House officials said that Tillerson had been informed of the decision Friday, while he was in Ethiopia. The attack was a “really egregious act” that would “certainly trigger a response”.

“I’m proud of her work, and know that my committee will continue its positive relationship with the Central Intelligence Agency under her leadership”.

Tillerson’s departure adds to a period of intense turnover within Trump’s administration that has alarmed those both in and out of the White House. “This relationship will empower him throughout his tenure as Secretary of State”.

Haspel was later accused of the 2005 destruction of the CIA’s videotapes of those sessions.

Haspel’s role in it meant that when President Trump nominated her for the No. 2 job previous year, critics within and outside of Congress called for her to be blocked even though she did not require Senate confirmation. “He will do a fantastic job!”

President Donald Trump’s pick to head the CIA, Gina Haspel, would be the first female director of the intelligence agency if confirmed.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday fired Tillerson, and the White House sacked a top aide, Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Steve Goldstein.

Goldstein says Tillerson will miss his colleagues at the State Department and the foreign ministers he worked with.

Trump was asked about his decision during a brief news conference. Tillerson reportedly privately calls Trump a “moron” after the session.

Trump, Tillerson, and other U.S. officials were being served wilted Caesar salad in China’s Great Hall of the People when the incident happened, according to the Wall Street Journal. “So we were not thinking the same”.

“I am confident (Pompeo) is the right person for the job at this critical juncture”, Trump said in a statement.

“As he tries to staff up, he is going to run into two problems”, said a former senior national security official in the George W. Bush administration.

Torture has since been explicitly outlawed by the government, and despite Trump’s endorsement of it, there have been no reports of the United States intelligence agencies returning to the practice.
