113-degree heat shatters Phoenix record

The weather system will raise the risk of heat-related medical problems, according to the weather service.

Weekend temperatures around the century mark are expected, with triple digits continuing through Tuesday. “Most importantly, embedded within there, we still expect some decent heat waves”.

The weather service is calling for a high of 114 on both Saturday and Sunday and 109 on Monday. People should remain hydrated, and attempt to stay in a cool, dry place. The all-time record high is 97 degrees. The hottest day is expected to be Saturday.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Clay Morgan said the heat impact level, which considers the temperature and duration of such soaring degrees, prompted the warning.

This is serious and potentially risky heat. June 2015 in Las Vegas was recorded as the hottest ever for the month.

“This was a little bit late in the year for 20-degree swings like that”, Morgan said. All lower desert areas will be affected by temperatures ranging from 110 to 116 degrees.

For those looking to cool off in the area’s waterways, the weather service urges a note of caution: “Water safety remains to be a major concern with cold, fast-moving streams and warm temperatures encouraging outdoor rafters and swimmers”, forecasters said in a news release.
