Packers clinch playoff spot, Rodgers not happy with offense

To find itself just 3.5 point dogs to a tough Green Bay team is a good indication of how much progress the Raiders have made in 2015. With a showdown game against Arizona coming up Sunday in Phoenix, he declined to join in on any criticism of his team.

McCarthy got defensive in his postgame press conference when hit with multiple questions about his offense and whether it’s good enough to get to the NFL’s Promised Land.

A fourth-down screen pass to Marcel Reece lost a yard for another turnover on downs, and following a blocked Packers field goal with a minute to go, the Raiders failed to convert again on fourth down in the closing seconds. Carr’s fastball went through the Roberts’ hands to Randall, who caught it and ran untouched 43 yards down the left sideline for a touchdown with 4:53 left in the quarter. Randall Cobb spent much of the drive lines up in the backfield, but he came up with a big first down on a 2nd and 17 and drew a pass interference penalty in the end zone to set up first and goal from the 2. “We weren’t very effective”, Rodgers said.

The Raiders had a first down at the Packers seven yard line. The Packers still were able to turn it into 7 points. We got in there and got hot and nobody could stop us.

The field was watered by mother nature all game long, which put the skids on a productive day for either offense, thought the Packers’ defense was the stalwart of the game. The Raiders played nearly the entire game with Woodson as the single-high safety. “There’s no success without a Super Bowl, but progress has been made”, Raiders safety Charles Woodson said, praising the work of coach Jack Del Rio and general manager Reggie McKenzie.

James Jones saw greatness in the Derek Carr’s future from the moment he first saw him throw the ball. The Raiders scored all 15 of its points in the second half, as the defense sacked Brock Osweiler five times. That at least got the Raiders out of their base defense, which is their best run-stopping personnel.

The Packers stalled out quickly on their next drive, as a deep shot to Adams fell incomplete on third down.

When asked what young players could stretch the field for the Packers, Woodson referenced second-year pro Jeff Janis, though not by name.

“I don’t think anyone feels fresh this late in the season”, Cooper said, “but I definitely felt better than I felt last week”. Meanwhile, the Raiders fall to 6-8 and out of the playoff race.

Tight end Mychal Rivera and fullback Marcel Reece chipped in with one catch apiece, and Carr’s 17-yard run injected a little magic into the clutch drive that trimmed the Green Bay lead to 14-13 at the half. Wide receiver James Jones, who played for Oakland last season, caught six passes for 82 yards and a score.

Throwing for 2 touchdowns and the 2 Interceptions in the game, Carr now has 30 TDs and 11 interceptions on the season. Facing a must-win situation, the Fresno State product threw a pair of interceptions that Aaron Rodgers simply wouldn’t let go by the waste side. Lined up right, Cooper got behind Randall, and Carr found him in the right front corner of the end zone. Aaron Rodgers moved around in the pocket, hoping to see a receiver get open. Carr was sacked three times for a loss of 36 total yards, but still finished with a 79.0 passer rating in a rather poor performance. He’s also a receiver Rodgers trusts.
