The study shows that diesel cars contribute at least 60-70 percent of PM2.5 from vehicles in different parts of Delhi.

Any commercial vehicle not bound for Delhi will no longer be allowed to enter the city through entry points at National Highway 1 and 8 while all taxis and cab services Ola, Uber or otherwise will have to shift to CNG by March 31.

The decision from the Supreme Court to ban the registrations of new cars came after days when the Delhi Government has come up with odd-even formula.

This very court had on October 12 ordered the light duty vehicles to pay Rs 700 and three-axle vehicles Rs 1,300 for entering Delhi in addition to the toll tax from November 1 as ECC.

The apex court also slammed vehicle manufacturers who had knocked at its doors against the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order banning registration of diesel cars in the capital.

The Supreme Court also barred diesel trucks older than 10 years from entering the congested city and halted the burning of garbage, as scathing public criticism mounts over Delhi’s toxic air.

What it means for you: Trucks have to pay more to enter Delhi so non-packaged goods could see an increase in price.

It clarified that the order banning registration of diesel-run vehicles, which will be operational from January 1, 2016, to March 31, will not include passenger cars whose engine capacity is below 2000 cc.

“We are going to implement the recommendations of the Supreme Court’s Committee strictly from day one and all the Traffic staff have been readied to handle violators as per the new guidelines”, he said.

The Supreme Court had yesterday said that the rich can’t be allowed to keep on driving diesel-driven SUVs that pollute the environment.

India’s top court Wednesday ordered a moratorium on large, new diesel cars in New Delhi in a string of tough measures aimed at cleaning up the world’s most polluted capital.

Finding that court was not in agreement, Dave said: “We want to co-operate”.

As per the reports, Diesel cars are making air pollution much higher than the petrol cars which is much obvious.

It also clarified that it has no doubts on the odd-even plan of Delhi government and only wants its proper implementation.
