Deep Purple’s Ian Paice blasts Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

How many Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies have come and gone without Deep Purple getting their invitation? An issue that still stands true in today’s society, #blacklivesmatter. The prog rock band Yes got a no. Chic, nominated for a record 10 times, has now been overlooked 10 times.

It’s all legitimised in a way because the whole music industry has to honour the group. MTV News explains that it joins four other rap groups in that canon: Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five (2007), Run-D.M.C. (2009), Beastie Boys (2012) and Public Enemy (2013). The small number of hip-hop inductees also brings to light the issue of the lack of diversity among the Hall and within the panel that selects those inducted. Likewise, only the seven original members of Chicago will be enshrined.

December 20, 2015, 14 Comments Singer Ian Gillan of legendary British hard rockers Deep Purple has slammed as “very silly” the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame’s decision to exclude guitarist Steve Morse and keyboardist Don Airey from the band’s upcoming induction.

Both Miller and Cheap Trick made it during their first year on the ballots. Chicago, with over 23 per cent votes, became the fan favourite among the fellow inductees.

Chicago- According to Billboard, Chicago was the leading United States singles charting group during the 1970s. Other artists who failed to make it past the nomination round include The Smiths, The Spinners, Yes, Nine Inch Nails, The Cars and Chaka Khan.

Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan slammed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame committee recently while Paice described that a potential Deep Purple induction could result in a punch-up between current and former members. They have sold over 40 million units in the United States, with 23 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums. A statement from the organisers said: “Deep Purple’s non-inclusion in the Hall is a gaping hole which must now be filled”, calling them “the Holy Trinity of hard rock and metal bands” along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath who are already inductees. HBO will broadcast the ceremony at a later date and tickets go on sale in February.
