J.J. Abrams regrets not directing Star Wars: Episode VIII

While this may be the case, it should be noted that the recently released DLC, The Battle of Jakku, is actually related to The Force Awakens. The Christmas Eve grosses pushed it past the notable hits “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” ($381 million), “Finding Nemo” ($380.8 million) and “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” ($380.3 million).

Although no longer directing, Abrams will be staying on with the “Star Wars” franchise as an executive producer. What Force Awakens has rivaled it in the B.O. score books are other titles that have launched mid-week, read the day’s all-time champ remains The Twilight Saga: Eclipse which made $68.5M on June 30, 2010.

Greg Grunberg, who has cameoed in most every Abrams show and movie – and was briefly in a Resistance meeting about attacking Starkiller Base in The Force Awakens – shared Abrams’ alleged regret with the Washington Post.

Starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in lead roles, the trailer of the film had already received applauds. Or Maz and Leia interact (or meet) at all.

“It ended up being an unnecessary hot potato”, said Abrams. It definitely wasn’t meant to be diversionary. He added: “I came out of it saying that I still enjoyed the movie”.

Just ask character Constable Zuvio, who doesn’t really appear in “The Force Awakens” apart from a possible flash in Rey’s vision, despite his action figure and special reveal in Empire Magazine. Unlike his predecessor, Abrams isn’t interested in rereleases. “I feel the movie that comes out is the movie that should be the intended final product”. And now The Force Awakens is eyeing Jurassic World’s biggest second-weekend record of $106M.

In fact, Skywalker doesn’t spew a single word when on screen at the end of the movie.

“There were all sorts of different ideas pitched over the past three years”, said Abrams. Scriptwriter Lawrence Kasdan recently said that there’s a story to be told; the mysteries about each hero will eventually unfold in the Episodes VIII and IX.
