Bucks’ Mayo says Warriors’ Green disrespected Carter-Williams

December 29 11:21 2015

Golden State beat visiting Milwaukee, 121-112, on Friday night, avenging last week’s loss to the Bucks that snapped the Warriors’ 24-game win streak to begin the season.

Draymond Green had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for his fourth triple-double this season. The exuberant displays of emotion made by the Bucks (10-17) in the waning moments of that historic win did not go unnoticed by the Golden State players.

Milwaukee’s lead ballooned to eight after Giannis Antetokounmpo scored the first five points of the second quarter.

Steph Curry and the Warriors have seen a lot of tough competition this year though, from teams that they were not expecting either. “Point guard Michael Carter-Williams had 24 points for the Bucks, who led by as many as 15 points in the third quarter before suffering the fifth loss in their last six games”. Green brushed Mayo’s arm off, and some pushing and shoving between the teams ensued. Draymond Green also had some sharp words, especially for Carter-Williams, who had lost his job as Milwaukee’s starting point guard and came off the bench against Golden State.

The Warriors, defending National Basketball Association champions and owners of a 25-1 record, have found a new motivation in the form of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Curry, who is usually not as boisterous as his teammates, didn’t take any shots at MCW, but made it clear that this matchup with the Bucks wasn’t just any game. “We’re competitors, so we’re not complaining about it. It is fun to play that way”, Livingston said. The Bucks have lost 11 straight on the road and won’t have top scorer Greg Monroe for a third consecutive game due to a Grade I MCL sprain in his left knee.

The score was knotted at 108-108 when Curry drove for a basket with 2:16 to play and then added two free throws.

It was just Thompson’s second game since spraining his right ankle late in the win over the Pacers.

Thompson, who is coming off his first 40-point game of the season, said Carter-Williams acting like a UFC fighter at a weigh-in was a bit much.

“As long as we play defense we know we are going to get a three or four-minute spurt somewhere in the game”. Monroe contributed 10 points, a game-high 13 rebounds and seven assists.

“I’m not satisfied because I thought we should have been better”, Green said.

Besides his strong, accurate shooting, there is another thing that makes him one of the best in the league.

We’ve noticed. What the Warriors do is win.

Asked whether that was what the altercation was mostly about, Green said, “Once again, I’m not going to go into what he said, what you think he may have said, he may have said or may not have said, but no man is going to touch my head. But when you have all hands on deck it feels normal”, Curry said Friday morning after the Warriors’ game-day shootaround. Green hit a free throw and then had his seventh assist of the game, feeding Festus Ezeli for a dunk that gave the Warriors a 103-102 lead. “Obviously, it doesn’t feel great to lose, but it was a good time to reflect on what our guys had just done and what they accomplished”.
