AT&T won’t offer 2-year contracts to existing or new customers come January the 8th.
According to an internal training document shared by Engadget, new and existing AT&T customers will only be able to purchase a smartphone at full price or with an AT&T Next payment plan going forward.
AT&T and Verizon both began distancing themselves from two-year contracts earlier this year, but throughout 2015, it has still been possible to extend a contract with both providers.
AT&T bills this as a “simplification” of its buying options, giving subscribers two options: AT&T Next, which charges a set monthly fee for a device, and no-commitment, which is paying the full retail price upfront. An AT&T spokesperson confirmed the news with The Verge.
