Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe gaffe: Was his teleprompter to blame?

Just as Gutierrez was blowing kisses and waving to her adoring fans she was informed that it was actually Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach who had won the crown instead. “We congratulate Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as Miss Universe 2015″.

Short of handing the Best Picture Oscar to the runner-up, the biggest mistake in entertainment might be Steve Harvey’s galactic fail Sunday night at the Miss Universe Pageant.

“Adriana Gutierrez was Miss Universe for four and a half minutes”, Colombia’s Caracol news network headlined a story about the bungle on the front page of its website.

Riek did say that they were happy for Wurtzbach and wished her a wonderful reign.

Wurtzbach covered her mouth in shock when Harvey announced the correction.

And for her part, Miss Colombia composed herself to give a very classy concession speech.

“[Gutierrez] was crying and then there was a crowd around her, the girls who were comforting her“, she continued, remembering the emotional fallout backstage. It said the second runner-up was Miss USA, the first runner-up was Miss Colombia, and the victor was Miss Philippines, though the countries were all written in small print.

” I would say that the situation was completely different than I would have ever imagined”, Santos told Canada AM.

“Because not one of us voted for [Miss] Philippines”, she added.

Urvashi also alleged that Miss Colombia knew that her name would be mistakenly mixed up with the winners’ name. “I’m so happy, thank you for voting for me!”
