Liberty Bowl Preview Capsule

January 01 10:15 2016

The Kansas State Wildcats (5-6) were amazingly chosen to be part of the Liberty Bowl despite of their 5-6 record. Kick-off is set to be at 2:20 p.m. If you plan on watching it on T.V., it will be airing on ESPN.

Arkansas Fight editor Doc Harper joins me as the podcast returns from a December hiatus to preview K-State’s difficult Liberty Bowl matchup against the Razorbacks. Over on the other sideline, the Wildcats head into this bowl game with records of 6-6 for both ATS and SU.

Will Arkansas be able to cover such a large spread or will Kansas State find a way to keep this one close? The Razorbacks instead finished 5-3 in the conference and won five of six overall to end the regular season.

Kansas State fell 40-35 to UCLA in last season’s Alamo Bowl. The Wildcats make it hard on their opponents down the stretch, averaging 10.6 points in the final quarter.

Kansas State has a 3-2 edge in the all-time series but hasn’t beaten the Razorbacks since 1926. Arkansas is 5-1 SU when taking a lead into halftime. The Kansas State defense is giving up 30.3 points per game with 283.1 passing yards per game and 159.4 rushing yards per game.

Kansas State doesn’t even clock into the top 100 in total yards a game, with a modest average of around 340 a game. That victory is among the program’s three in their last four postseason games, and Arkansas routed Texas 31-7 in the Texas Bowl last season.

Defensively, Kansas State ranks 90th, so Arkansas will look to have a big day offensively. The Hogs are looking to improve on their record from previous year, and get to the 8 win mark to finish a very strong surge in the last half of the season.

Doc says this guy in November looked like the best quarterback to ever play for Arkansas. Uh-oh.- Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports
