Former President Jimmy Carter’s grandson reportedly died Saturday while taking a nap in his Georgia home. Jeremy’s mother tried to wake him, only to learn his heart had “quit beating”.
A family member performed CPR on Jeremy, but was unsuccessful, according to Carter. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to keep him alive and Jeremy slipped away in the early morning hours of Sunday.
No cause of death for the younger Carter was immediately available. “Everything that happens in life, good or bad, he uses as a teaching experience”, one Maranatha member told the newspaper. After telling the congregation the news Sunday, Carter then taught Sunday school, as he has for years at the church. He died early Sunday at the hospital.
“[President Carter] was shaken”, Shoulta told CNN. There have been moments of great joy, of sadness, of grief.
The former president’s wife, Rosalynn, was not present Sunday. He had announced he would be undergoing radiation therapy and immunotherapy treatment that would require him to cut back on his public schedule.
The sad news comes weeks after Carter, 91, stood in front of the same congregation to reveal he had won his battle with cancer.
