After winning his first four starts while filling in for Luck, the 40-year-old Hasselbeck has gotten worn down throughout his extended playing time. After Matt Hasselbeck went out of the game the Dolphins let third string quarterback Charlie Whitehurst be the one to beat them. They also need the Texans, 8-7, to lose against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who might not be making the playoffs, but are a much better team than Tennessee.
Hasselbeck is expected to start today, but what happens if he and Whitehurst are both sidelined?
For a team in need of all the help it could get, the Colts certainly found the right opponent. That is in addition to the fact that Andrew Luck is still recovering from a lacerated kidney and torn abdominal muscle, an injury that has caused him to miss the past six games.
The third quarter of this one was a little less eventful, with the only scoring coming off a Dolphins field goal with just under four minutes to play to cut the score to 15-9. “The defense really delivered”.
He also left the game limping with an apparent hamstring injury after being sacked on a third-and-nine scramble near midfield. Up first is Josh Freeman who spent some time with the Dolphins in camp this year but has not taken a regular season snap since 2013. He said he is “not super optimistic” he’ll be ready to play next week.
“He’s the only healthy one we’ve got in the building right now.”
“I had this injury to my left arm a long, long time ago, so I kind of know it’s not that serious”.
The division is still in the Texans’ control, and it appears to be just a matter of when they clinch. They have turned that team around and both sides of the ball are doing well. Tannehill continued. “It’s not easy to win when the quarterback is getting hit, so that’s something we want to fix”. “That’s something we have to fix”. Colts outside linebacker Robert Mathis sped in to tackle Tannehill for his second sack of the game and 118th of his career.
“He feels like it’s on his shoulders, but it’s not”, Miami interim coach Dan Campbell said. They should look for a more defensive minded head coach that can recruit a strong offensive coordinator. “It’s never one man’s fault”.
Colts running back Frank Gore needs 93 yards from scrimmage to pass Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis (15,111) for No. 20 in league history. With two losses in a row, Miami has a 5-9 record and has quickly fallen in the standings.
Colts cornerback Vontae Davis intercepted Tannehill in the end zone on a poorly thrown pass intended for DeVante Parker in the first quarter. To be fair the Dolphins did score a touchdown that was negated by a phantom hold call on Jarvis Landry.
Landry, the Dolphins single-season leader in receptions, went over 100 catches for the year.
The Dolphins had plenty of make-believe reasons to defeat Indianapolis on Sunday – pride, professionalism, each other. Colts guard Hugh Thornton left in the first half with an ankle injury.
