Jackson, Mississippi councilman says throw rocks at police chasing petty crooks

January 02 10:57 2016

Speaking earlier in the week about police chases crossing into Jackson’s jurisdiction, Councilman Kenneth Stokes publicly stated, “Let’s get rocks, let’s get bricks and let’s get bottles and start throwing them and then they police won’t come in here anymore”.

Mississippi’s governor called for an investigation into comments made by a local county councilman that encouraged black leaders to “throw rocks, bricks and bottles” at police.

Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker said in a Facebook post to Stokes that law enforcement will not be intimidated by him. He also called for legal action against police that chase misdemeanor suspects into city limits.

“This is nothing short of an outright assault upon all who wear the bage”. “Any Madison county law enforcement that is attacked because of your ignorant statements, I will hold you responsible”. “Kenneth Stokes, a councilman in… I believe inciting a riot is against the law”, tweeted Candace E. Salima.

Over the last several years, Jackson officials have raised concern about high-speed chases in the city involving law officers from surrounding police departments.

According to the video below, Stokes disagrees with police who “endanger” Jackson residents by “chasing down young men who steal bubble gum”. “Outside jurisdictions chasing suspects around Jackson neighborhoods must not be allowed”. Officers were searching for a shoplifter who assaulted a loss prevention officer at the Walmart in Richland. “We want the same respect that they give to their neighborhoods given to Jackson neighborhoods”.
