The company who run the Lotto in the UK, Camelot, confirmed that the couple did attempt to purchase the tickets, but because the account wasn’t sufficiently topped up, the purchase never went through. The money eventually was added to their account, and the lottery ticket purchase went through, but it was well after the deadline.
