Oregon QB Adams leaves game after hit to head

January 03 21:05 2016

The No. 11 Horned Frogs beat the No. 15 Ducks 47-41 in triple overtime, erasing a 31-0 halftime deficit despite playing without star quarterback Trevone Boykin, who was arrested early Thursday morning, and injured star receiver Josh Doctson. The combination of defensive lapses and offensive struggles allowed TCU to match Texas Tech’s 2006 Insight Bowl win against Minnesota as the largest comeback in bowl history.

“It’s just one of those teams“, TCU head coach Gary Patterson said. They’ve never really quit. “They made one more play that we did”. Bram Kohlhausen, who had a shaky first half, looked like the same quarterback that nearly led TCU to an upset win in Norman, throwing the ball with confidence and making plays with his legs. “We’ve had to do that before”.

OR got off to a disappointing 3-3 start this season, including a 42-point loss to Utah and a loss to Washington State.

OR quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. celebrates an OR touchdown against TCU during the first half of the Alamo Bowl NCAA college football game, Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, in San Antonio.

That was the beginning of 17 unanswered points in the third quarter by TCU. TCU would score on their first drive wih Kohlhausen hitting Porter in the end zone to take their first lead of the game 38-31.

Collins had touchdown runs of 22 yards and 13 yards in the first 17 minutes.

Any team could have rolled over after such a awful first half, and many would have.

TCU scored on all of its possessions in the second half and overtime.

All that’s left now is to wait for the national championship game of the college football playoff between Alabama and Clemson on January 11, a Monday, taking place in the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

First, Jaden Oberkrom kicked a field goal to get his team on the board. In the third, a Bram Kohlhausen eight-yard touchdown run and failed two-point conversion gave the Horned Frogs a 47-41 lead. “All you have to do is stay with your guy”. “There’s some big shoes to fill”. A 3rd and short play for OR when horribly awry when Lockie bobbled the low snap, and Ty Summers came flying in for the sack.

Somehow, Helfrich found it within himself to tell reporters, “I’m proud of the way our guys battled”. “I will never wear black again”. “He was the one who showed me how to play like I did tonight”. That left backup quarterback Jeff Lockie to oversee Oregon’s offense holding a cushy 31-0 lead. Coach Bret Bielema said Reed rejoined his teammates in the locker room after the game. They just kept creating opportunities and doing things and we’re really proud of them. I came in a couple days late, and it just went by so fast. “These four years that I have been here is definitely something I will remember forever”.

The bowl game was supposed to be the last of Boykin’s TCU career.
