A day after Bill Cosby was arrested on charges of aggravated indecent assault, the 78-year-old broke his silence, tweeting a message of thanks to his 4.1 million Twitter followers.
The answer to one question could have a big impact on the outcome of the case accusing Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting a former Temple University employee named Andrea Constand in 2004: Will his other accusers be allowed to testify?
“For many of my 29 clients, who allege they are victims of Bill Cosby, seeing him criminally charged and having to face a trial is the best Christmas present they’ve received”, attorney Gloria Allred said.

In a defamation lawsuit against one of his accusers earlier this month, Cosby said he has been legally and functionally blind for a year because of a degenerative eye condition that he has suffered for years, reports said. Among other things, Cosby admitted that he had repeatedly pursued sex with younger, often-struggling models and actresses and that he obtained quaaludes to give to some of them. His next court hearing is January 14.
Steele, a deputy DA who will take office as DA in January, defeated Castor in the election after a campaign in which he ran ads against Castor criticizing him as not caring about victims because of his decade-old decisions in the Cosby-Constand case.
“Mr. Cosby urged her to take pills that he provided to her and to drink wine”, said District Attorney-elect Kevin R. Steele during a news conference on Wednesday. Guthrie followed up with a question about Andrea Constand’s 2005 civil case, from which these charges stem, and asked, “If you think someone’s lying, why do you settle?”
On Thursday, Cosby’s lawyer, Monique Pressley, appeared on the Today show via satellite to discuss Cosby’s criminal charge, and said her client was “not guilty.” . Charges against Cosby were filed just days before the 12-year statute of limitations would have expired. Although a judge originally dismissed the case in 2005, the charges filed Wednesday were the result of new evidence that came forth in July. It is still under investigation by police.
“It’s coming from that bastion of journalistic integrity, so I’m not really putting much stock into what any of their covers espouse to say about this case or any of the other cases”, she said. The judge ruled that Camille Cosby’s role as wife and business manager make it at least “plausible” that she might have information relevant to the lawsuit.
In his deposition, Cosby said he gave Constand three half-pills of Benadryl for stress without telling her what they were. And I don’t feel her say anything.
