The new year started on a great note for Chelsea as the team produced a great performance and even got a good result to boot against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Willian celebrates with Diego Costa after scoring the second goal for Chelsea.

“The very talented players, they started working also”.

It leaves Chelsea unbeaten in four matches since the sacking of Jose Mourinho, with two clean sheets in their three games under Hiddink. It was unfortunate what happened, but he has come in and picked everyone up.

“There is no doubt that we are lacking quality at the top of the pitch at the moment and that was evident”, Pardew told Sky Sports.

However, there was concern for Hazard, who limped off on 16 minutes after appearing to hurt his groin while taking a shot. “We are where we are, we knew as a group we had to get better and we have done so slowly and surely and today hopefully is not the last of it”.

Hiddink talked down the potential for the victory to galvanise a terrible campaign, although he suggested Chelsea can still challenge for Champions League qualification from their lowly position of 14th.

‘I thought that Jon Obi can be one of the key figures in getting back the balance’. His radar, he knows how to read the game very well.

Despite highlighting Zaha’s chance, Pardew was adamant Chelsea were worthy winners, adding: “I don’t think it was a tight game, Chelsea were good today, very good”.

Coming into the match on the heels of two draws against Watford and Manchester United, Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink claimed his side was in desperate need of a win. Not just a quality player, but one who can defend so smoothly.

Chelsea play their next three games in front of their homes fans at Stamford Bridge, starting with an FA Cup tie against Scunthorpe before Premier League clashes against West Bromwich Albion and Everton.
