Manchester United are ready to break the bank in order to turn their fortunes around after it was revealed the club are lining up a £33million offer for Felipe Anderson.
Manager Louis van Gaal is keen on recruiting a star player during the forthcoming transfer window in a bid to save his job at Old Trafford this New Year.
Anderson has been on United’s radar for some time and was linked with a move in the summer.
However, if the attacking midfielder fails to justify the fee involved in the move, then the calls for van Gaal to depart will become much louder, and nearly impossible to ignore.
United have struggled from a lack of firepower this season, scoring the second-fewest goals in the top half of the Premier League including five goalless draws.
The increase of interest in Anderson comes after United cooled their pursuit of Southampton forward Sadio Mane, with the 23-year-old Senegalese worldwide valued at over £40m by the south coast club. He has four goals and one assist in 17 leagues matches with the Eagles this season. Man United’s troubles upfront in recent months have been well documented, and the fact that LVG is still in charge of the club heading into the January transfer window could see a mid-season spending splurge.
