Philadelphia Eagles’ brain trust to be Howie Roseman, Tom Donahoe, coach

Chip Kelly was offered no options – just the door – in a meeting Tuesday night with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie.

Murray said Kelly was reluctant to change his system to better fit his running style. In the next off season he traded franchise leading rusher LeSean McCoy for marginal linebacker Kiko Alonso for what Kelly rationalized as a cap space deal, but for the Eagles rabid fan base Alonso’s production on the field could not measure up to what McCoy brought to the table. Belichick, hired on January 27, 2000, is the longest-tenured active National Football League head coach.

“I think I would say it’s really disappointing”, Belichick said.

“I mean Chip Kelly to me is a really good football coach”, Belichick said.

The Eagles sit 6-9 this season after a disappointing year and have failed to reach the playoffs in each of the last two seasons under the 52-year-old’s regime, and after Lurie gave Kelly full control over all personnel decisions the 64-year-old says there was always an element of risk with his appointment. Murray said he wanted to keep the conversation private and would not divulge who initiated it. He also did not speculate about whether Kelly’s ouster would help his chances of staying with the team. Besides, even if the college kids hate Kelly’s system or Harbaugh’s over-competitiveness, they’ll be out in a year or too, and the coaches will have another team of wide-eyed players with big time dreams. Pat Shurmur will take over as interim head coach for the final game of the season. Grigson has not done a stellar job with Indy and could very well lose his job at the end of the season. But, look, I’m not there. So a lot of the players are going to have to change – in part because of the philosophy, probably in part because of the scheme – and then just getting your team acclimated to doing things the way, the philosophy of the new program. It feels good to have the Eagles back it felt like they were not the Eagles team I grew up loving!

“Secondly, I thought in fairness to Chip it was a good way for him to also view the market place and see what’s possible in terms of employers. I have a lot of respect for them”. You have 22- to 35-aged people, people who are elite athletes, and there are a lot of issues. To me, that’s the more important thing. “But when the team started losing, stuff started to come out”. The way we were losing, we were thinking, ‘Man, we are way better than this.’ Something was off. I don’t know if there was a disconnect with Chip. “Our new head coach, executive vice president of football operations and a player personnel head, they are all partners to collaborate, and that’s the structure”.
