Bill Cosby’s lawyer claims sex assault charge was politically motivated

Bruce L. Castor Jr., the district attorney who oversaw the 2005 investigation, declined at the time to arrest Cosby, citing insufficient evidence to support any charge.

Bill Cosby has arrived at a district court outside Philadelphia for his arraignment on a sexual assault charge and shook his head as reporters shouted questions at him.

A prosecutor in Pennsylvania has charged Bill Cosby with the alleged drugging and sexual assault of a woman in 2004.

The message says, “Friends and fans, Thank You”.

Allred added that other women have contacted her who have not yet come forward, making similar accusations against the comedian.

Her position suggests there will indeed be a trial of Cosby in 2016, in what would be the first sensational celebrity criminal trial of the Twitter age.

Cosby’s attorney has said the charge is unjustified and predicted her client will be exonerated.

Cosby was released on US$1 million bail. After twenty to thirty minutes, Constand says she began experiencing blurred vision and difficulty speaking.

Cosby told Constand’s mother that he gave Constand a prescription medication but told police he gave her only Benadryl, which is sold over the counter, according to the affidavit.

He was charged with aggravated indecent assault, a second-degree felony carrying a maximum penalty of five to 10 years in prison and a US$25,000 (S$35,300) fine. But in almost every case, it is too late to file criminal charges.

“Given the serious nature of the allegations, I can’t imagine him getting anything less [than three years]”, said Michael Skinner, a former assistant district attorney in a nearby Pennsylvania town.

More than 50 women have accused Cosby of drugging and sexually molesting or raping them – allegations the veteran television and movie showman has vehemently denied.

Cosby and his lawyer were photographed outside Philadelphia embracing as he boarded his private jet on Tuesday night to return to his mansion in MA.

The answer to one question could have a big impact on the outcome of the case accusing Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting a former Temple University employee named Andrea Constand in 2004: Will his other accusers be allowed to testify?

This latest one from the New York Daily News – featuring his mug shot after being arrested and the “she said” account of over 55 women – is causing quite a lot of controversy.

“Before we even mount a defense, we will have to look at this game of political football that this Montgomery County D.A.’s office has played with my client’s life”, Pressley said on ABC’s Good Morning America. In the Pennsylvania case, the statute of limitations was set to expire early next year.
