The three criminals were involved in an interstate drug smuggling gang, Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar told reporters here.
Mohali: Three men were arrested in Mohali, Punjab on Monday for possessing Pakistani SIM cards, a Pakistani-made automatic rifle among other weapons. However, no link of the arrested youths involved in extremist activities has been established yet.
The three were arrested following a scuffle between them and a police team in which the gangsters had also opened fire at the cops, he said.
A 9 mm sten gun, two 9 mm pistols, two.30-bore pistols, one airgun, 190 live cartridges and 31 mobile phones were seized from Gurjant Singh, Sandip Singh and Jatinder Singh.
It is considered to be a major development from the Punjab Police as it might help in getting leads about the Pathankot terrorist attack. Police also said that they had links with smugglers across borer and cases of murder against them.
Post interrogation it was found that the arms recovered from the arrested males are made in Pakistan and China. Investigation is under progress, police said.
