The Central Government will provide complete support and aid to all the affected areas, ‘ the Home Minister said. “However, I feel the border in Dhubri sector will be fenced by December 2017”, he added.

It might be mentioned that in August previous year, Rajnath Singh attended a seminar conducted by the All Assam Students Union (AASU) in New Delhi on the implementation of the Assam Accord where he assured of visiting the border. Addressing a public rally at Ramkrishna Nagar in Assam’s Karimganj district near the Bangladesh border on Sunday, Singh said the damage was minimum at the airbase which is not very far from the Pakistan border.

The minister also inspected the Steamer Ghat Border Outposts (BOP) in the district.

“The NDMA has begun coordinating with the state governments, ministries of home affairs, defence, telecom, National Disaster Response Force, and government departments and agencies concerned for rescue and relief following the 6.7 magnitude quake in Tamenglong district in Manipur at 4.35 a.m. today (Monday)”, the statement said. “However, in Dhubri sector of the global border there are several gaps”. Immediate sealing of the border is very important for India’s security. Mr. Sonowal has said that the Centre is taking all steps to seal the Indo- Bangladesh border.

Rajnath Singh will also visit Silpagram, Panjabari, Guwahati same day. “Both ordinary Bangladeshi people as well as fundamentalists and terrorists are infiltrating through the porous and poorly-guarded border”, AASU president Dipanka Nath said.

“We are in constant touch with the Bangladesh government on the issue of fencing along the border, ” Singh maintained.
