The whole experience is set in the Clash of Clans universe, and like that game, Clash Royale is free to download and feature in-app purchases. The game combines many familiar Clash of Clans elements with real-time strategy; MOBA-esque elements as you attack other players’ towers and bases; and CCGs, as you use cards with elixir costs to attack your opponents. Although it is a mobile game, it comes from the developers of Clash of Clans: Supercell. It’s a card duelling and collection game set in the Clash Universe.
Winning matches will reward players with chests that contain powerful new cards.
Clash Royal has soft-launched in Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and New Zealand. More countries will be added in the near future as Supercell receives feedback about the game. “Supercell has looked for a fun and engaging approach to player-versus-player gameplay on mobile for years, and we think we have finally found it”, a post on the developer’s website reads.
The company considers Clash Royale not to be Clash of Clans 2. This new game brings together the royal family with your favorite Clash of Clans troops, sometimes with a few new twists.
It’s not guaranteed that Clash Royale will make it to final release, as other Supercell games – like Smash Land – have previously soft-launched before dying. “Hearthstone“, developed by Activision Blizzard, has more than 40 million players with an estimated $20 million in microtransactions a month, according to a Superdata report in 2015.
