Claudio Ranieri sets new Leicester points total

January 04 11:35 2016

After the 0-0 draw against Manchester City, Leicester City coach Claudio Ranieri said that nobody wants to win the Premier League.

Wes Morgan has hailed an “incredible year” for Leicester City as they sign off 2015 in second place in the Premier League, behind Arsenal only on goal difference, and determined to show that they are capable of remaining in the title race in the second half of the season.

Manchester City’s away form has been poor this season and the tradition continued at the King’s Power Stadium.

“I am not a doctor but normally with a muscle injury less than three or four weeks is very hard, especially on the calf”.

Vardy, 28, has scored 15 goals already to help the Foxes start the New Year level on points with leaders Arsenal and Ranieri said: “When I think it’s the right moment to give him a rest I’ll give it to him”.

“We tried to win the match and do our best but when you play with such high intensity, you can make mistakes and we made mistakes with the last pass. We were too anxious to score a goal but it’s okay – 40 points”.

It was the undercard’s of Ranieri’s brigade who caught the eye of the supporters compared to Leicester’s star players – Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. “But without him, we must continue to defend as did (at Leicester)”.

He added: ‘This is good for us because big teams play in a lot of competitions: the Champions League, the FA Cup, League Cup and Premier League. No, I say “we want to beat Bournemouth”.

Against all expectation they enter 2016 joint-top of the table, as they prepare for their next encounter against Bournemouth on January 2, whilst Manchester City will seek a much needed away victory against Watford.

With their title credential under the microscope after defeat at Liverpool on Boxing Day, Leicester responded with a typically hard-working performance and were a match for City.

He had not played a game since the trip to Aston Villa in early November in what was City’s last clean sheet. “We will fight until the end”.

‘We are starting now to build our team, ‘ Ranieri told BT Sport after Tuesday’s game. “I think there are a good few of us who need some days’ recovery now after this period and, once we’ve done that, we can prepare for Saturday and come back to Old Trafford with the same energy and enthusiasm to keep driving and get that win“.

“It is a game we could and should have won but we did not”.

There was a difference of £270m between the cost to assemble Leicester and Manchester City squads
