At least, according to John Oliver. Thankfully, John Oliver has released a new video to help his Last Week Tonight viewers deal with the disappointment of shattered resolutions.
John is letting us in on the secret to fulfilling all those New Year’s Resolutions we thought it would be good to come up with 4 days ago. He took to YouTube for another web exclusive for “Last Week Tonight” to talk about revising resolutions once you’ve failed to keep them. “But that’s hard. Exercise is like reading for your muscles – except you can’t watch a movie of someone else exercising and basically get the gist of it”. So if someone is struggling with hitting the gym, Oliver’s advice is to lower the standards about what constitutes exercise to something that just increases the heart rate. For example, instead of jogging in the mornings, the comedian suggests “waking up late for work”.
Alternatively, Oliver argued, you could scale up your resolution to a patently unachievable level, so that you can chalk up your failure as inevitable.
