Detroit goaltender Petr Mrazek made 22 saves to post his second shutout of the season and the seventh of his career.

The rookie sensation scored perhaps his prettiest goal of the season midway through the first period, taking a long pass from Brad Richards near the Devils blue line and absolutely undressing goaltender Cory Schneider on the breakaway. He leads National Hockey League rookies with 14 goals.

Milestone for Iginla • Jarome Iginla became the 19th member of the 600-goal club, scoring a power-play goal in the third period to help Colorado beat visiting Los Angeles 4-1. Boychuk suffered his injury, believed to be a left shoulder problem, Thursday night.

Detroit Red Wings center Riley Sheahan, center, is caught between New Jersey Devils center Stephen Gionta, left, and right winger Jordin Tootoo, right, during the first period of an NHL hockey game Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, in Newark, N.J. They’re extremely skilled. They present a lot of the issues that Dallas presented in terms of their offensive abilities, so we just have to make sure we’re committed to defense, but also making sure we play in their end, too, and get some chances.

“The third period was probably the best period we played”, Mrazek said.

“I wouldn’t talk about No. 1 goaltender”, Mrazek said.

“Maybe I confused him because I didn’t really know what I was doing at first”, Larkin said. “Mrazek made some big saves early but after that, he was able to find pucks”.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) – Andrej Sekera scored 2:47 into overtime, Cam Talbot made 29 saves for his first shutout of the season, and Edmonton beat Carolina. “We had some toward the net that just went wide or were tipped wide and just didn’t have eyes”.

NOTES: This was the second of a six-game road trip for the Red Wings…. “I got a little desperate”.

The Devils had another close call when Detroit’s Darren Helm hammered a slap shot from the high slot off the crossbar at 9:02.

“You have to give credit to Mrazek”, Devils coach John Hynes said. He entered the game tied with Buffalo’s Jack Eichel. It was Detroit’s second victory following a three-game losing streak.
