A bus caught fire in northern China on Tuesday, killing 14 people and injuring more than 30, a fire spokeswoman said. Police are seeking a man in connection with the fire in which 32 people were also hurt.
Images of the incident posted online showed the bus completely engulfed in flames and a short video of police in yellow rain jackets gathering around the vehicle’s smoking, charred remains.
There have been several bus fires in recent years in China.
The Ningxia public security department is searching for Ma Yongping, the suspected arsonist. “Bus on Fire!'”, Hu Yuexiang, a 26-year-old man recalled. Yinchuan authorities said that of the 32 injured, eight were severely hurt while the rest had light to moderate injuries.
The bus driver sustained minor burns in the incident.
Hu said he wanted to film the fire, but the bus quickly “turned into a skeleton”. Firefighters put out the blaze 10 minutes later, according to Xinhua.
