Latest child prodigy: Kalyan boy Pranav Dhanawade smashes records with unbeaten 652

Dhanawade surpassed the previous world record for an individual score midway through his innings, hammering past English schoolboy Arthur Collins’ 1899 record of 628.

Dhanwade’s fiery knock was built around a flurry of boundaries.

The opener’s sextuple hundred saw his team reach a mammoth total of 956 for the loss of just one wicket in reply to Arya Gurukul’s first innings score of 31 all out in 20 overs.

Cricket: Indian school kid Pranav Dhanawade is on track for a stellar career after smashing a staggering 652 runs off 199 balls in a Mumbai inter-school tournament.

After yesterday’s effort, Dhanawade told the Hindustan Times: “I have always been a big-hitter”.

Armaan was in the news in December 2010 when he slammed 498 in the Under-14 Giles Shield to break the record held by Sarfaraz Khan (439 in 2009-10). I just played my natural game, which is to attack from the word go. “I did not know of the world record, but we had the Indian record in mind”, commented Pranav with regards to the 546 scored by Mumbai’s Prithvi Shaw at Azad Maidan in couple of years back.

The 15-year-old’s father Prashant, who is an autorickshaw driver was thrilled with his son’s performance.

“Once I reached 350, I was determined that I had to break those records”.

“After reaching 300, my coach Harish Sharma told me to play on. If I can score 600 runs in two sessions, I am confident of scoring 350 in one session”, he added.

Collins rattled up an incredible 628 not out in a house match at Clifton College aged 13 years and 10 months in June 1899.       	      	     VIEW
