Regarding Bourne’s mental state, Damon revealed that Bourne will be found in a “dark and tortured place” before he resumes his quest for answers about his past.
“There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyberwarfare and civil liberties”, he continued.
Asked how viewers will find Bourne in the new film, Damon pointed to darker elements of current global affairs as having affected his character. Damon, who plays the amnesiac spy said that Bourne will continue to search for details about his past since he has been off the grid since 2004.
Bourne 5 marks the return of Damon’s Jason Bourne after almost a decade away from the screen. Damon exposed earlier this yr in that the tale would take Bourne “through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world”. However, after the tepid response to that movie, it’s hardly a surprise that Universal made a decision to prioritise this collaboration from veteran Bourne director Paul Greengrass and the returning Damon.
In the same interview, he also hinted at some action scenes where his character will be involved in, which includes “a nighttime riot scene” in Athens as well as an epic auto chase along the Vegas strip towards the end of the movie.
