Anti-Trump skywriting pops up at Rose Parade

CBS News said an Alabama businessman, Mr Stan Pate, was behind the airborne protest targeting Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, over the heads of the hundreds of thousands of visitors at the New Year’s Day event.

The theme for this year’s parade is “Find Your Adventure: Tournament of the Roses”. The grand marshal is documentary filmmaker Ken Burns.

Many gathering for spots along the parade route said they considered security concerns before deciding to attend.

In earlier parades, arrests were substantially higher.

Among the 44 floats are works in homage to the City of Hope, whose float was built by and will feature athlete cancer survivors.

There will also be a special appearance by Elsa and Anna from Disney’s hit “Frozen”, along with Mickey Mouse and friends and some of the “Star Wars” crew.

The floats featured in the Rose Parade will also be in the running for a number of awards.

The India Punjab float got people moving to its Bollywood beat. The planes circled for nearly an hour after the parade, writing messages such as “Trump is delusional”. A gentle Santa Ana wind carried the aroma of sizzling bacon-wrapped hot dogs down the boulevard. The parade route and stadium are “No Drone Zones”. Many sipped hot cocoa and were equipped with portable heaters, blankets and sleeping bags to stay warm as overnight temperatures dipped to the mid-30s.

Though more than 53 million people are expected to watch on TV, and more than 700,000 attend in person, there are still some detractors who took to social media to rain on the New Year’s Day parade.
