Days after a mosque in Las Vegas was vandalized by an unidentified man who put bacon on the handles of the door of the house of worship, a similar incident has occurred in Florida.

Police say a vandal left bacon and smashed lights and windows with a machete at a mosque along Florida’s Space Coast.

According to the Titusville Police Department, 35-year-old Michael Scott Wolfe, of Titusville, Florida, was arrested just after 6 p.m. on Monday in Titusville and charged with criminal mischief to a mosque – a third degree felony.

Repairs are still being made, but mosque leaders are hopeful they can reopen by Friday.

“I know several parents, once they heard the news, weren’t sure if it was safe enough to send their children to school”, said Musri.

Officials said surveillance footage shows a man entering the mosque’s carport late at night and smashing cameras, lights, and windows. “We understand there may be frustrations felt throughout the community, although they may be unjust, taking out the frustration in this way is cowardly and most people recognize it for that”.

“It’s very disturbing, it’s disenchanting”, said Rasha Mubarak, the director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations Orlando region.

This remains an ongoing active investigation.

The Titusville police responded to a report of a burglary at The Islamic Society of Central Florida Masjid Al Munin Mosque located at 1011 South Washington Avenue last Saturday at 6:13
