San Bernardino Attack Office Reopens

“It’s scary, really scary, but we as Americans just have to face what’s going on and try to move on”, Anderson said.

“Just be together again, ” Johnson said, “share where they’re at”.

Many have continued to work, visiting the homes of autistic children and mentally disabled adults. In the afternoon, a memorial service for victims of the shooting will be open to county employees so they can mourn together.

Few workers have been to the campus since the shootings, but some made a brief visit to gather belongings.

The campus on Waterman Avenue comprises two main buildings where center employees do most of their work, plus a third building that includes a coffee shop, a library and conference facilities that can be rented out.

It’s not yet clear when Building 3 – the two-story site of the deadly attack – will reopen.

The nonprofit agency serves clients in a vast area of San Bernardino County who have developmental disabilities. Pastor Rick Warren, the founder of Saddleback Church, and Rudy Giuliani, the mayor of New York City at the time of 9/11, are expected to speak. Giuliani states the rampage in San Bernardino might have took place anywhere in america & in that communities need to stand by & support one another as nobody knows where might be next. “You can’t beat us. They died because of liberty and freedom and decency and human rights”.

The fence originally was erected to keep people off the campus during the investigation of the attacks, but now remains a semi-permanent fixture meant to make employees feel safe.

“You defeat that by coming out of this as an example of how strong people can be when they love each other”, he said. “It is not grief that paralyzes us – it’s fear”.

Security would be heightened for the facility, which was closed in the aftermath of the December 2 shooting, said Inland Regional Center Executive Director Lavinia Johnson. They yearn to renew a sense of stability at an institution unmoored by violence.

Much of the work that IRC employees do can be conducted with clients outside the office.
