Bill Belichick disappointed Chip Kelly didn’t get more time

In the end, Chip Kelly created a poor culture and a beatable scheme.

While Eagles owner Jeff Lurie said Murray had “nothing to do” with the decision to fire Kelly, Murray’s signing and lack of production had everything to do with the 6-9 record that led to Kelly’s ouster. Kelly went 26-21 overall in his almost three seasons as head coach in Philly. But I’m really just focused on this last game (Sunday against the Giants). I mean, Chip Kelly, to me, is a really good football coach.

As soon as Kelly was sacked, there was talk that three National Football League teams had contacted him about each’s head coaching job, yet only one actually had a vacancy. There’s a lot of examples. “I thought having six extra days was important because, as you know, it’s a chaotic, rushed schedule when you are looking for a coach. I kind of feel not this year, but next year, Chip Kelly is going to be back in college football”.

“I really just want to publically thank Chip”, Lurie said. Roseman, Donahoe and the new head coach will manage the roster with a “collaborative” effort, he said.

Murray also said he considers a new regime, whether it’s interim head coach Pat Shurmur or another head coach, “a fresh start for everyone”. From ownership to the quarterback, things have gone unchanged since 2001. Belichick and Kelly have a relationship that predates Kelly’s time in the NFL. But, look, I’m not there. I’m not there. I’m not part of those programs. They’re just not a good team period and the Washington Redskins deserved to win the NFC East division, they were truly the better team on both sides of the ball. I will miss them very much and I will be rooting for them to achieve their dreams.

Bill Belichick believes Philadelphia made a mistake. It wasn’t until 2003, Belichick said, that he felt his entire program had been installed. “But there are dangers in that when you make significant changes after two 10-6 seasons in a row”. Lurie made it clear he wants a coach who can relate to his players and everyone else in the building. “You see how fast he got rid of all the good players”.

With a new coach comes a new philosophy, Belichick explained.

The Eagles’ running back was clearly unhappy with his diminishing role in the Eagles’ offense over the past four weeks and even went to owner Jeffrey Lurie to state his displeasure after a recent game. The coach that comes in usually has a different philosophy than the coach that left, so you have to try to implement that philosophy. Kelly was sacked Tuesday after the Eagles failed to meet lofty expectations in his third season as coach. I don’t think there’s any shortcut to it.
