Recent losses and air strikes have not weakened the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the group’s reclusive leader purportedly said in an audio message, even as the militants lose ground to Iraqi forces in a key city. “The more intense the war against it, the purer it becomes and the tougher it gets”, al-Baghdadi said the audio recording.
“The Jews thought we forgot Palestine and that they had distracted us from it”, he says in the recording.
In the recording, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi condemned Saudi Arabia’s involvement in establishing a coalition of Muslim nations to fight his group. Whilst it is impossible to completely verify the audio recording, experts said the voice on it closely resembles that of the ISIS leader.
“We are getting closer to you day by day”, said the message.
132 Palestinians have also been killed, many of them attackers while others have been shot dead by Israeli security forces during clashes.
After the hype died down, El-Baghdadi tweeted a picture showcasing the difference between him and the real terrorist leader – he shaves and does not wear a Rolex watch stolen from one of his victims.
ISIS die-hards made a desperate last stand on Saturday in a Ramadi former government complex, the main remaining target of Iraqi forces reconquering the city. “Soon, with God’s permission, you’ll hear about shaking footsteps of the mujahideen [holy warriors]”, al-Baghdadi said in a rare threat against Israel.
A dam, formerly under the control of ISIS, was also taken away from them by the Kurdish Peshmerga.
Meanwhile, a US-backed coalition of rebels in Syria – including Syrian Kurdish, Arab and Christian groups – captured a major dam on the Euphrates River from Isil as part of the coalition’s march on Isil-held areas in northern Syria. He mentions that airstrikes in Syria and Iraq have only increased the Islamic terrorist network’s determination and resolve, reported New York Daily News.
Buses were due to transport the fighters to Raqqa, in northern Syria.
Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia announced a new 34-member alliance against terrorism that will be based in the kingdom’s capital, Riyadh.
