Eagles impressed by Adam Gase, will hold 2nd interview

Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase appears to have impressed the Eagles in his initial interview Tuesday for their head coaching vacancy. He is also the first candidate the Eagles have interviewed that isn’t already employed by the team. They did rush when they took Chip Kelly, who was just fired after three seasons.

Gase, The Daily News noted, sat in an eight-hour, closed-door meeting with Eagles’ owner Jeffrey Lurie, with “sources familiar” noting that he “flew from Chicago to Philadelphia in the afternoon and left during the evening”.

During his one season in Chicago, Gase drew praise for turning the fortunes of enigmatic quarterback Jay Cutler.

The 37-year-old has a busy week lined up for him, with interviews lined up with the Cleveland Browns (Wednesday) and Miami Dolphins (Thursday) and the New York Giants are reportedly interested, too. They have interviews with Dan Campbell (Friday) and Hue Jackson (Sunday) also on the schedule.

That being said, I wouldn’t necessarily be down on Gase if he ended up being the guy.

The Browns are scheduled to talk with a handful of other candidates including Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and Dallas Cowboys secondary coach Jerome Henderson. Gase worked with Peyton Manning as Denver’s quarterbacks coach for two seasons before running the offense.
