No. 1 Kansas outlasts No. 2 Oklahoma 109-106 in 3 overtimes

Wroblewski’s mark came way back in 1962. Hield stayed behind after a heartbreaking loss to do a SportsCenter interview, and when he wrapped up, he received a standing ovation from those who remained at Allen Fieldhouse. “This was a great effort, it was awesome”.

Perry Ellis had 27 points and 13 rebounds, Devonte Graham made the go-ahead free throw in the third overtime and top-ranked Kansas outlasted Buddy Hield and second-ranked Oklahoma 109-106. Games like this continue making you want to be a part of the atmosphere.

Nearly two hours before tip-off, he Tweeted that he was locked in – ready for a game that he had been waiting nearly his entire career to play.

Over the years college basketball has taken a hit. Ryan Spangler finished with 14 points and 18 rebounds in the first triple-overtime game in the history of storied Allen Fieldhouse. That was such an emotional game. “I look at their bench, their coaches are smiling, laughing at me and me at them (because of the epic contest)”. This is draining emotionally.

This is one of the best games I have ever seen. Paige led six players in double figures for West Virginia (13-1, 2-0 Big 12).

The big difference between that game and this one? He finished the huge matchup with 27 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists. He missed the free throw, but KU had a three-point lead early in OT. KU shot 50% on 11 of 22 shooting, while OU was 16 of 33 on treys (49%).

Start with Hield, who played on some of the same summer teams as Ellis and at a prep school not far from Lawrence.

Two of the new teams – No. 19 Iowa and No. 25 Dayton – were both ranked for one week last season. Then he smiled and told his players to go enjoy the rest of night – this historic night of college basketball that’ll be remembered for a long, long time.

Collectively the Sooners shoot 45.3 percent from deep, third best in the country and second best in the Big 12 behind – Kansas.

“I have more in the tank”, Hield said. But every time things got comfortable, Hield put everyone back on edge. “There were key plays, a ton of ’em”, Self added.

But it was his bad pass that cost Oklahoma a chance at the win in the first overtime and his inbounds blunder, which might have been aided by Mason stepping over the sideline, that sent Oklahoma home with its 15th straight loss in Lawrence.

I can go on and on. Then we had a few better possessions and made some shots and it was a quick turnaround.

Mason actually guarded Hield the second half. Don’t forget to check out the questions that I answered for him here.

“We got ourselves in a bit of a hole”, Sooners coach Lon Kruger said. We finally hunkered down and got some stops in the second half. We wanted to pick up the win but couldn’t. I’m proud of our guys.

There’s the Chris Webber “timeout game”, too. He played inside tonight. They are led by an enviable three-headed guard rotation of Mason III, Selden Jr. and Graham, and senior forward Perry Ellis is a sleeper player of the year candidate.

1 for the first time since the final regular season AP poll of the 1990 season (March 6, 1990). “Just proud of my teammates, never giving up”.
