An emotional Obama unveils his plan to cut gun violence

“The United States of America is not the only country on Earth with violent or unsafe people”. No way. We have too many guns in circulation for that to happen.

“If the Republican Party would rather work for the NRA than for the American people, and if they won’t do their jobs to keep our children safe, than somebody else has to step up”, Warren said.

WASHINGTON | President Barack Obama moved Monday to expand background checks to cover more guns sold at gun shows, online and anywhere else, aiming to curb a scourge of gun violence despite unyielding opposition to new gun laws in Congress.

The FBI is overhauling the background check system to make it more effective and efficient.

Utah’s Rep. Jason Chaffetz, meanwhile, was among those accusing Obama of ignoring the will of the people – even though polls show most of us favor more background checks – and bypassing Congress – even though Congress has bypassed its duty to enact the will of the people for decades. States will now also be made to provide information on people disqualified from buying guns due to mental illnesses or domestic violence. The license process includes a $200 application fee and a criminal background check.

One in 20 guns advertised through Armslist past year was linked to an unlicensed seller who had listed at least 25 guns, according to recent research published by Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun control group backed by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

“There’s a reason the NRA is not here, they’re just down the street, and since this is the main reason they exist you’d think they’d want to have a debate with the president”, Obama said of the NRA’s absence. And maybe, just maybe, the problem isn’t what Republican presidential candidates are saying.

“Will it (the new policy) affect our business a little bit? – yes, in the positive”, Hogsett said.

CNN says it organized the event, not the Obama administration.

That confusion is common among the Obama Derangement Wing of American politics.

On the presidential campaign trail, the candidates on both sides of the issue reacted sharply, indicating that gun control is becoming a major division between the Republicans and the Democrats.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, Republican of Wisconsin and an avid deer hunter, released a statement, blasting the president’s gun agenda as “a form of intimidation that undermines liberty” and violates the Second Amendment. Bush promised to repeal the Obama’s executive orders “on Day One” if elected.

Republicans leapt into immediate competition for the title of extremist best able to distort Obama’s ultra-limited, ultra-reasonable directives as a monstrous government plot to destroy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness on the shooting range.

Skepticism about the effectiveness of the executive actions is widespread.

The plan has drawn intense criticism from gun rights groups that have accused the president of trampling on the Second Amendment and railroading Congress by taking action on his own without new laws.

President Barack Obama, with tears streaking down his cheeks, launched a final push to tighten sales of firearms, using his presidential powers in the absence of tougher gun restrictions that Congress refuses to pass. “Our next President has to build on that progress-not rip it away”. Most Latinos support criminal background checks (84 percent) and the creation of a national database (69 percent).
