But the mothers of Collins and Matthews will witness his death – watching through a window into Florida’s death chamber, where Bolin will receive a lethal injection just after 6 p.m. Thursday.
The justices rejected Bolin’s appeal and request for a stay without comment.
Bolin exemplified why the death penalty is necessary. That woman was later identified as Teri Lynn Matthews.
Bolin was also sentenced to death for the killing of Stephanie Collins, 17.
In 1990, Bolin, an IN native, was serving a sentence of up to 75 years IN an OH prison for raping a woman near Toledo when he was extradited to Florida to face the murder charges. All told, he’s been found guilty 10 times by 10 juries in regard to the three Tampa Bay area murders.
His case drew national attention when he was televised marrying by phone a paralegal who had been working in the public defender’s office.
Bolin was also convicted of kidnapping and rape in another case.

Rosalie Martinez, wife of a prominent local lawyer and mother of four children, married Bolin in 1996 when he was inside on live television, triggering renewed media scrutiny. Reeves said later that she was relieved Bolin was finally executed. He did not have any last words, and his last meal consisted of a rib-eye steak, baked potato, salad, garlic bread, lemon meringue pie and a bottle of Coca-Cola.
Bolin said, “No, sir”, when asked if he wanted to make a final statement Thursday night.

In the decades since, every one of the verdicts delivered by juries in three separate trials was reversed at least twice by appeals courts, although ultimately he was convicted again in each case: 10 times by 10 juries, to be exact. Reeves told The Associated Press it doesn’t matter that Bolin was not executed for all three cases “because he only dies once”.
