Cold weather, chance of snow in forecast for early next week

January 10 20:41 2016

National Weather Service forecasters think the county’s center could be the bullseye for an upcoming storm Monday evening into Tuesday.

The warning covers jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties.

There is no snow is the forecast for Tuesday but it will continue to be blustery.

Winds are expected to remain high, with gusts of up to 60 miles per hour, and bands of lake effect and blowing snow will produce extremely poor travel conditions, snow-covered roads and very poor visibility of as little as a quarter-mile at times. A thunderstorm also is possible today and then tonight, when rain mixed with snow could occur after 10 p.m., with a low of about 25.

At least three inches of heavy, wet snow is expected. Snowfall could total 1 inch Monday afternoon, and possibly another inch in the evening, according to the NWS-Chicago. Gusts in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes will be slightly lower. Travel in high profile vehicles may be hard at times. Plunging temperatures will turn on the lake effect snow machine. The other days have a 40 percent or less chance of precipitation.
