“He’s already won four national championships”, Swinney said.
Carson and Swinney prayed together for the team “to do very well”, and the two men also reminisced about their childhoods and the struggles of growing up in poverty.
The game will air on ESPN. So, Jemele, welcome back.
MARTIN: So can we talk about the playoff system? You just check their recruiting.
“I don’t know that anybody stops Deshaun Watson”, Saban said. “I think Clemson does the same thing”. The video is the flawless blend of what we love most about Saturday mornings in this country: cartoons and college football. They work hard. They aren’t playing for any other reason. “I think the schedule has set up well for us”. “They’ve been the standard in college football for a long time“.
The line helped Watson become Clemson’s single-season total yardage leader (4,731) and Gallman gain the most rushing yards (1,482) in school history. The Crimson Tide haven’t won a championship since 1979 before that night in New Orleans when they defeated No. 1 Miami in the Sugar Bowl.
Katz said, “When I got out here, there was no one to watch the games with”. Why is a number two favored to beat a number one?
“Coach Saban, what he’s done, I mean, he’s one of the greatest coaches that ever coached the game“, Swinney said. Swinney grew up near Birmingham and played for Alabama when Gene Stallings was the coach in the early 1990s.
That approach is in contrast to many coaches, who are so preoccupied with watching video and putting together game plans and making recruiting calls that the world passes them by. I just think there’s a little different image out there in terms of how they do it, but I think if you asked our players, they enjoy themselves.
MARTIN: Can you even say Bear Bryant without the legendary Bear Bryant attached to it? In 1975, Alabama crushed Clemson 56-0, and then in 2008 (the game pictured above) in the season-opening college football “kickoff game”, Alabama prevailed again, 34-10. Part of the lack of buzz may be tied to the idea that Alabama is expected to cruise to another championship against an overmatched opponent in Clemson. The Crimson Tide’s quarterback, Jake Coker, has been solid, according to the International Business Times, but Alabama has been rolling on Derrick’s performance, as he’s rushed for over 2,000 yards for 25 touchdowns. I don’t know if we can make it four out of the next seven years. You did. Thank you.
Ty: I want SO BADLY for Clemson to pull this off. Like, I really do.
MARTIN: Well, he was kind of held in check. And so the question is can – do – is there a way that Clemson could repeat the same trick? They’ve had a great season. Their quarterback, Deshaun Watson, came in third place for the Heisman and was also named the MVP of the Orange Bowl.
Alexander, a redshirt sophomore and first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection, was injured in the second half of the Tigers’ 37-17 victory against Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Jemele, enjoy the game.
MARTIN: That’s ESPN Jemele Hill.
