In April, they will be available in limited locations at select retailers, according to Oculus. That’s in line with the price range for a headset and PC that Oculus executives had floated previous year. Oculus briefly sold unfinished “development” headsets back in 2012 and 2014, but since then there’s been no way to get your hands on an Oculus Rift.

In addition to the high price of the headset, those looking to purchase a Rift will need a pretty powerful gaming PC. If you want to wait until February, you can order a bundle that includes a Rift and a Rift-ready PC for $1499. These will include Rock Band, Minecraft, and The Climb. Following this the prices are indeed expected to drop as the technology reaches everyday gamers.
By comparison, the developer kit cost about $350.

Oculus VR set off the current virtual reality boom in 2012, with its successful Kickstarter campaign, raising almost $2.5 million.
