Trump and Cruz are almost tied in recent surveys of the Iowa caucuses, which come eight days before the New Hampshire primary on February 9.
On Sunday, ABC News announced they were dropping the Union Leader as a co-sponsor of the New Hampshire Republican debate on February 6. He says he loves me.
But the partnership between ABC and the Union Leader was on shaky ground even before that debate, unrelated to Trump’s complaints about the paper, according to the network source.
She was referring to the newspaper’s November endorsement of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, as well as a public spat with Republican candidate Donald Trump. The Union Leader, meanwhile, quoted McQuaid as calling ABC spineless.Trump has used his celebrity status and lead in many GOP polls to enforce control over the outlets that cover him.
After pausing briefly to take in the man’s words, Trump called for the man to be ejected: “Get him out of here”, Trump shouted.
“We are amused by ABC apparently just discovering that we write editorials and endorse candidates”, he said. Trump quickly claimed credit for the networks decision to drop the Union Leader on Twitter.
“We consider ABC’s actions to be spineless”, he added, accusing ABC of “bowing to the [Democratic National Committee] and Trump”.
McQuaid seemed to give credence to Trump’s claim of credit; the publisher accused ABC of being “more concerned about appeasing the parties and candidates than informing voters”.
WMUR-TV and the Independent Journal Review, a news website, will remain partners in the debate, though their role has not been defined. “The Union Leader will continue to serve Granite Staters by being a reliable source of information about where candidates stand”.
