Lady Gaga and Sam Smith nominated for Oscars

Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Guillermo del Toro, John Krasinski and Ang Lee read out the list of the 88th Academy Awards nominations in all 24 Oscar categories at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. “No. You don’t know until it happens to you”.

Gaga released “Til It Happens to You” as a single in September 2015.

The Weeknd also is having a major moment: The R&B singer began a shift to pop star status past year with “Earned It”, which sold more than 2 million tracks and peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. It will compete against the likes of Sam Smith’s “Writing’s On the Wall”, from “Spectre“.

The nominees for this year’s Oscars have been announced, and Antony of Antony and the Johnsons, the Weeknd and Sam Smith are all up for awards.

Oddly left out is the hit duet from Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa from “Fast and Furious 7”- “See You Again“. The strong showing for ‘The Revenant, ‘ including a best actor nod for Leonardo DiCaprio, follows its win at the Golden Globes.

Hegarty collaborated on the song with J. Ralph on the ethereal tune.

The other five movies nominated for best picture include “Room, ‘ ‘Spotlight, ‘ ‘Bridge of Spies, ‘ ‘The Big Short” and ‘Brooklyn‘. As its title suggests, this is a simple melody but one filled with heart and soul, so it’s understandable while this little-known song (outside of awards shows, it received a Golden Globe nod too) was nominated. While these things shouldn’t matter, oftentimes they do, and this song’s chances suffer for it.
