The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset is one of three highly-anticipated VR devices coming in 2016.
It said the firm’s founder, Palmer Luckey, would be answering questions about the Rift on a Reddit Q&A session on Wednesday at 18:00 PCT (02:00 GMT). The company previously said it wanted to ship the Rift at-cost to make sure that the headset sees wide adoption.
Oculus started selling its Rift VR headset, which it will begin shipping in March, for $599. Not only will they receive the Oculus itself, but the bundled games promised to pre-orders (Lucky’s Tale and EVE: Valkyrie) will be included with it. The blog post said that the controllers will ship the second half of 2016 because they need more time before the release.
Owners of the Oculus Rift DK2 headset will be able to register their interest in the testing program here.
Oculus says that users can expect dozens of full-length AAA titles to become available through 2015, including Minecraft, Rockband VR and Crysis developer Crytek’s The Climb.
If I pre-order, when will it arrive? Those that pre-order the Oculus Rift will be the first in line for the Oculus Touch when it launches. Moreover, thanks to Microsoft’s support, an Xbox One controller is tossed into the package, with an Oculus remote, a VR sensor and of course, the headset itself.
The device went on sale Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET after years of anticipation.
Oculus initially made major headlines with its Kickstarter campaign and its subsequent $2 billion acquisition from Facebook.
