The BMW M3 and M4 aren’t short on straight line pace with 425bhp at their disposal, but those addicted by the pursuit of pace may want to put their names down for the new M3 and M4 Competition Package. For what it’s worth, the boost takes a tenth from the 0-62 time, meaning a DCT-equipped saloon or coupe should do it in four seconds flat.
Interior revisions are less noticeable, but buyers will likely appreciate lightweight sports seats in the front and seatbelts with woven stripes.
As well as a fiddled ECU, the Competition Package cars benefit from a variety of handling upgrades and some unique styling tweaks.
The extra power is great, but it means very little without an upgraded suspension system.
BMW has introduced a Competition Package for the M3, the M4, and the M4 Cabriolet.
BMW has announced a new Competition Package for its M3 and M4 models – taking power from 425bhp to a staggering 444bhp. The driving modes have been reconfigured to exploit them better, with the M diff and DSC also configured differently. The added power will lower the 0 to 60 miles per hour time by 0.1 second for all models.
Underpinning the new M-car trio are uniquely styled 20-inch wheels shod with 265/30 profile tyres up front and wider 285/30 tyres at the rear. Both cars are lighter, faster and more eager to rev. In TFLcar’s first BMW M week video, Roman reviews the new cars to see how this 5th generation of the iconic BMW M3 compares to the competition. Their “regular” brothers will feature the Park Distance Control system, BMW’s fancy name for its set of parking sensors, as standard equipment.
Ah yes, wheels. Standard for the Competition Pack are forged 20-inch items that are clearly inspired by the M4 GTS. In additional to the already standard high-gloss Black finish on the the side window trim, window recess finishers and exterior mirror frames and bases, the Competition Package also includes high-gloss Black finish on the BMW kidney grille, the side gills and the model badge on the tail.
