George Miller Will Direct More Mad Max Movies After All

Earlier in the week, we reported on an interview that writer-director George Miller has apparently given to Page Six in the USA, where he implied that he was done with Mad Max movies. “Oscars 2016 slammed for being “too white” again Besides Hardy, the best supporting actor award nominees are this year’s Golden Globe victor Sylvester Stallone (‘Creed“), Mark Rylance for “Bridge of Spies“, Mark Ruffalo for “Spotlight” and Christian Bale (‘The Big Short“).

The 70-year-old film-maker, who has received a best director nomination at this year’s Oscars for Fury Road, claimed he had been misunderstood in a recent interview. Though its “Mad Max” predecessors had sold lots of tickets on reasonable budgets, none had been nominated for Oscars-and often-tired sequels seldom won awards anyway. The best actress category is being led by double Oscar victor Cate Blanchett “Carol”, actress Brie Larson for “Room”, Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence for biopic “Joy“, Charlotte Rampling for “45 Years” and Saoirse Ronan for “Brooklyn“.

“It’s quite nice to be woken up at 1am with text messages and phone calls to be told our film has been nominated and to have so many Australians”, Miller told AAP.

Director Inarritu will face off with George Miller for “Mad Max”; Adam McKay for “The Big Short“, about the 2007 USA financial collapse; Lenny Abrahamson for “Room”; and Tom McCarthy for “Spotlight“, about the Boston Globe’s probe into child abuse by Catholic priests.

On Thursday, when the Oscars nominations were announced, the film didn’t just receive nods for sound mixing, sound editing, visual effects, costume design, and production design – the more expected technical categories – but it also landed the most prestigious two categories, best directing and best picture. “It’s been this sort of snowball which is picking up momentum”, she said of the film’s awards season buzz.

“Fury Road” has been nominated under 10 categories.

Among the best picture snubs were blockbusterStar Wars: The Force Awakens and Carol, for which Blanchett also served as executive producer.

“Even the cats are up running around so we might have a cup of tea and then get back to bed”, laughed Miller around 2am today, when asked about his plans for the rest of the night.
