Republican presidential dropout Lindsey Graham was reportedly preparing Friday to endorse former rival Jeb Bush.
“Last night [at the GOP debate] I heard from Jeb Bush the right answers”, Graham said, explaining his decision with Bush at his side.
Graham added that Bush understands better than anyone else that “this is a religious war and they only way to win this war is to partner with people in the faith to destroy a common enemy”.
Earlier Friday, Bush accepted the endorsement of former contender Sen.
The South Carolina senator today announced that he’s backing the former Florida governor for the Republican presidential nomination.
Bush now stands at fifth place in SC with 8.5% support, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average. He’s trailing Marco Rubio and Ben Carson, but by fairly modest margins.
For his part, Bush praised Graham’s foreign policy experience and said he would continue to seek the senator’s advice. Graham complimented Bush’s temperament and attitude.
Graham dropped out of the presidential race in December.
One Bush adviser in SC, who asked for anonymity to speak frankly about campaign strategy, said that the influx of Graham support in recent weeks has been a “huge help” across the Palmetto State.
