Actor Sean Penn dismissed criticism of his interview with Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman in a supposedly secret meeting that authorities say helped them track down the world’s most-wanted trafficker.

In his 10,000-word article for Rolling Stone, Penn acknowledged the likelihood that he was being watched, despite taking numerous security precautions: “I see no spying eyes, but I assume they are there”. “I have a thousand questions for San and all the people involved in this”, Rose told journalists during the CBS News panel at TCA.

Guzman’s fascination with celebrity might have been his undoing. One of the federal officials confirmed that Guzman appeared to be infatuated with Del Castillo, apparently referring to her by the code name “Hermosa”, or “Beautiful”.

She pledged to give her story in due course.

The drug lord, however, was later caught in a stolen auto a mile away from across town by the Mexican Federal Police, who took him to a motel and called for backup.

Penn has acknowledged that he tagged along for the controversial October 2 meeting at a mountain hideout originally set up by Del Castillo.

Most recently, we saw Kate del Castillo on the big screen in the new movie The 33, which is based on the Chilean miners who got trapped. The kingpin wanted her to have a pink handset but in the end agreed to gray.

The transcripts published on Wednesday by the newspaper Milenio showed Guzman’s main concern was getting face-to-face get-togethers with Del Castillo, and he did not even really know who Sean Penn was.

Guzman comes across in the messages as increasingly enamoured with the actress, while she tries to talk about work, including an unnamed project involving people in Hollywood.

“I’ll take care of you”. He could barely write, but is very intelligent, the ex-official said.

“The Chapo Guzman story has been one of the most captivating stories this past year and we are thrilled to bring an inside look into his world to our audiences”, said Alberto Ciurana, Univision’s programming chief. “You’re making me blush“, del Castillo responds. She took on the role of a drug-cartel boss in not one, but two, soap operas on Telemundo, the popular La Reina del Sur, or The Queen of the South, and Dueños del Paraíso, or Owners of Paradise; and played a high-flying Mexican politician in season five of Showtime’s popular series Weeds.

While Department of Justice officials still seek to have Guzman sent to the USA for prosecution I have a suggestion for the Mexican Attorney General.

“It was just between me and Sean, for a couple of weeks as he wrote his draft”, he said.
