Archer’s mother, Valerie Holliday, told the Philadelphia Inquirer her son was a devout Muslim, but suffered head injuries from playing football and in a moped accident. But they added that the tip is not isolated, they and the Federal Bureau of Investigation will looking into it and similar tips as they investigate the incident.
But Ross said there is no indication that Archer did, in fact, have any concrete ties to radical Islam or the terror group.
Court records show Archer was found guilty in November of several charges, including fraud and forgery, and was awaiting sentencing.
Do you agree or disagree with Megyn Kelly that political correctness was in play in the way some elected officials reacted to the attack on Philadelphia police officer Jesse Hartnett?
The suspect used a stolen police firearm and fired shots at close-range at Officer Jesse Hartnett while he was in his police vehicle Thursday night, police said. He was in critical but stable condition, police said today.
Abu Rahman noted that people can say and do anything they want in the name of Islam, but shooting and killing is not justified in the Quran, the central religious text of Islam. “This guy tried to execute the police officer”. At a news conference yesterday afternoon, he said of the officer: “The bravery he demonstrated was absolutely remarkable”.
“In no way shape or form does anyone in this room believe that Islam, or the teaching of Islam, has anything to do with what you’ve seen on the screen. ISIS needs to be destroyed”, Abdulsalaam said, using an acronym for Islamic State militants who have seized parts of Iraq and Syria, declared war on the West and proclaimed a “caliphate” that would rule over all Muslims.
Hartnett, an 18th District officer with five years on the force, was patrolling alone on 60th Street when Archer strode toward his cruiser around 11:40 p.m. Thursday.
When his backup arrived, they caught the shooter, still holding the gun, and Hartnett was taken to the hospital. Images show the suspect pointing a gun at Hartnett’s vehicle, while another shows what appears to be the muzzle flash as he fires. Miraculously, Hartnett, 33, survived despite being hit three times in the arm. “He just started firing with one aim and one aim only, to kill him”. When Hartnett called in to report shots fired, he shouted, “I’m bleeding heavily!” into his police radio.
Police sources said the tipster said the three men in the group “still frequent the 6100 block of Pine”, near where Hartnett was shot. Shane Archer says Edward did travel to Mecca but he believes the alleged shooting was more closely related to what he called police mistreatment of black men than religion. That officer had been disciplined, Ross said.
