A man has been shot dead by officers at a police station in Sydney’s west.
‘At this stage we have been unable to identify the man, we have no idea of the motive for him coming to the police station, ‘ Assistant Commissioner Denis Clifford told reporters at the scene.
A critical incident investigation has been launched following the death and a brief is being prepared on behalf of the Coroner.
The shooting forced the lock down of two childcare centres for four hours, which are both across the road from the police station.
Police have yet to identify the man, who appeared to be aged in his 40s, or establish a motive for the confrontation.
‘There was a shot fired by the sergeant, it struck the man, he was rendered assistance but passed away a short time later, ‘ Mr Clifford said. “I just wanted to give an update and perhaps allay some fears”.
No police officer was injured in the latest incident.
